A 25-year-old University of KwaZulu-Natal student has apparently confessed to killing his friend who he described as "a zombie that blocked his fortune" in a video circulating on social media. Samkelo Zondi's burnt body was discovered on Saturday in a rugby field near the Westville campus in Durban. The 24-year-old BCom student is one of many students who have since died in the hands of other students at institutions of higher learning in SA this year. According to SRC president Siyabonga Nkandako, Zondi was reported missing by his girlfriend on Thursday. "Zondi and the suspect were close friends and also roommates. Judges Bhekisisa Mnguni, Thoba Poyo-Dlwati and Ester Steyn ruled against Zuma on Friday. He will now appear in the trial court on Tuesday, when he will face corruption charges. Zuma's legal team relied on the National Prosecuting Authority's 15-year delay to prosecute and political interference to secure a permanent stay of prosecution. Zuma's co-accused, French arms company Thales, also applied for a permanent stay of prosecution. Thales is accused of agreeing to pay Zuma a yearly R500,000 bribe for protection from an investigation into the controversial multibillion-rand arms deal. The alleged bribe was facilitated by Zuma's former financial adviser‚ Schabir Shaik.

A charge of r@pe has been added to the list of charges against the Durban father accused of killing his three children and stepdaughter. He made another appearance in the Pinetown Magistrate’s court on Wednesday. The man’s children aged 4, 6, and 10 were found hanged in their family home in early September. His 16-year-old stepdaughter was found strangled and the bush in Padfield Park in Pinetown. Officials say the new charge is unrelated to the murders. “The charge of r@pe that the accused was faced with has joined to the four counts of murder. So now the accused faces five counts, which is four counts of murder and one count of rape,” said spokesperson for the NPA in KwaZulu-Natal Natasha Kara. Outside the court, political parties came out in support of the mother. The accused remains in police custody and is expected back in court on the 7th of November.
